Day 6 – Disney’s MGM Studios – Thursday 20 September 2007
Funny story from last night, after kids had been asleep for about an hour or so, I went into their room to get their clothes out ready for tomorrow. Lauren stirred and I said ‘it’s OK, I’m just getting your clothes out’…….next thing I knew, she’s out of bed starting to get dressed, she was ready to head back to Disney after only an hours sleep!
MGM was an easier park, very few rides and lots of shows to watch. Saw Beauty & the Beast, a fabulous production as well as The Little Mermaid, they are so creative at how they stage these things, some live shows, some a combination of animation and puppets, some people dressed as characters.
We watched the parade right at its starting point, so when the last character float came out, Hayley and Lauren were able to help hold the barrier to signal the end of the parade, and walk along behind (see photo), which they really enjoyed. During the parade Tigger came up to Lauren and tapped her on the head (on her colourful hat). She said to us later that Tigger must have remembered her from when he signed an autograph on the top of her head the other day (a previous photo I’d loaded), and he was coming back to say hello again.
We were all set to enjoy the big finale of the day ‘Fantasmic’ a sound & light spectacular when nature intervened with its own light spectacular and it was cancelled due to major storm (which we had no cover for, so got drenched) and lightning. Apparently 5 of the last 7 nights performances have been cancelled because of weather. All Lauren was concerned about was how good it would be if Wagga was getting all this rain!
The wildest ride there was the ‘Tower of Terror’ based on an old Hollywood hotel where you ride in a malfunctioning service elevator that plummets down (then up & down a few more times for good measure). We decided that was too much for Lauren, so she sat that one out. Michael and kids rode a few times, but once was enough for me.
They also had an attraction based around the movie Narnia, the same team that made that movie are now making another in the series ‘Prince Caspian’ which is due for release in May 2008.
The Lucas’ and us have decided we’ve completed spoilt all future holidays for these children. Disney is so totally amazing, we’re hoping that wherever we go in the next few years won’t seem ho hum in comparison.
