Day 18 – Tuesday 2nd October 2007 Sea World Was raining lightly as we set off this morning, very pleased with ourselves that we didn’t get lost on the way to Sea World, but got a few minutes down the road when I realised we’d left the tickets at home, so had to head back. The rain got steadily heavier, so we all wore our waterproof ponchos and hit the park. Looking at Michael in his poncho made us all laugh, he had the video camera on his front, backpack on his back, but with a rain poncho over the top of all it just made him look enormous. The rain kept most people away, so for the first few hours it was very quiet, which was wonderful for us. Got to see lots of animals up close and uncrowded, kids loved patting sting rays (one of them said ‘I could do this all day’, they’re very unusual to feel, sort of soft and furry almost). We were all amazed by how big the walrus’ were, particularly their tusks. Kids were delighted to see a manatee farting (similar creature to a dugong). There were some great shows, Shamu the killer whale show, a dolphin/bird show we all loved, and Pet’s Ahoy that had heaps of animals – cats/dogs/birds/skunks/ducks/pig etc doing tricks onstage. For the whale & dolphin shows the kids sat in the ‘wet zone’ (seats near the front), and boy did they get wet. Amazing how much of a splash the dolphins and whales can make. Michael and I sat several rows behind them with the video and camera. Lunch was a surprise (more edible food than Disney, Michael and I both had a stir fry). While we ate we watched these 2 ‘duelling pianists’ who were wonderful, they played on stage on a grand piano each, but took turns and you could request songs. We asked for ‘American Pie’ and they did it really well, and got us all to sing along. We were about to ask if they knew ‘I Still Call Australia Home’, but their session finished We had dinner there at the Sea World Luau, was a great production with lots of Polynesian style dancers (including one very young, very cute girl that our girls thought was wonderful). They had fire dancers also which were spectacular, and nice food, was a fun evening. Only negative of the whole day was that Lauren’s wonderful rainbow hat flew off her head on one of the rides. The guy at the ride said he’d search for it after 6pm when the park closed (Michael saw the area it flew into, but there were lots of ferns there, and we weren’t allowed in). We told the guy we were going to be at the Luau, so he said he’d either bring it there, or leave at ‘guest relations’. Of course when we left after the Luau, guest relations was closed, so we now have a number to call in the morning and hope they have it. Lauren was very very upset (and so are we, as those hats have been brilliant, we can pick them both out in a crowd thanks to those hats, so I really hope we get it back tomorrow). |
