Day 12 – Wednesday 26th September 2007 Roatan Island, Honduras
What a pretty place this was, ship docks right near markets at the port. There’s an old white weatherboard church building that really stands out on the hill. Population is less than 50,000 so again, nowhere near as crowded as some of other places.
(Brayden wrote the next paragraph when I was out - We then bought a tour and went to the beach which was 30 minutes away. The countryside was beautiful, so lush and green. Our tour guide told us about how the school children learnt English as their main language and Spanish as their second language. Also each different Religious group wore their own Uniform. (end of Brayden).
The beach we went to was gorgeous, clear blue water, nice and warm – so we’ve finally all swum in the Carribean now. Kids amused themselves for ages digging trenches, burying their legs and building sandcastles. We hired a family paddleboat type thing and all pedalled round for a while. After that we drove round the island for a little while, very picturesque and bought our usual magnet at the markets near the pier before reboarding the ship.
Had another wonderful dinner, we’re on countdown now, only 2 more meals in the restaurant before we’re back to cooking spaghetti ourselves for dinner. We have 2 wonderful waiters who look after us very well. They know Lauren likes 2 cheeseburgers (main course + dessert), Samson takes up residence under our big round table each night, so the waiter gets down and takes his order there. Each night the waiters do a dance and get the kids up to join in, tonight they gave them all jackets and we all did a conga line round the restaurant (will hopefully load a photo). Brayden’s continuing with his meat frenzy, having a loin of pork tonight (at least it was white meat for a first).
Kids then went to Camp Carnival and Karen, the Michaels & I ordered our usual cocktails and watched the Glory Dancers do their tribute show, songs from Tina Turner, Elvis, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and many more, was quite good. Actually met a couple from Melbourne tonight, the first Aussie’s we’ve come across. Went to collect Lauren at 10pm tonight and she begged us to let her stay another hour because they were having a special party, so given it’s a sea day tomorrow and we don’t have to be up early I relented, so hopefully we’ll all sleep in. Then Friday we’re in Freeport Bahamas, then back to the mainland.
