Day 3 – Monday 17 September – Michael’s 40th birthday Where do I begin? This was without doubt the biggest birthday ever, and just reinforced that there is nowhere else that holds a candle to Disney. Everywhere you look it’s entertainment overload. We had a wonderful lunch booked at ‘Crystal Palace’ for Michael’s birthday, lovely buffet food, I’d ordered a birthday cake which we all enjoyed. Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet were there, so more photo opportunities. Space Mountain was a big favourite, as was Splash Mountain where we all got a good drenching. Fluked a great position for the afternoon parade, the look on the youngest kids faces as all the characters went past was just priceless. Fireworks at the end of the night were also amazing. Kids stamina held up very well, only Lauren started to flag in the last hour, and even Samson didn’t fall asleep till about 8.30pm. I had my own bit of extra Disney magic when in the middle of a huge crowd of people I looked down to see $55USD at my foot! I feel so bad for whoever lost it, I hope it was someone who could afford to drop that much and not even miss it. Michael reckoned we had a ‘cost neutral’ day as that covered our cash outlays (& credit cards don’t really count do they?!) Lauren has been having extra fun with the toilets over here. They’re auto flushing based on sensors, so once you stand up after about 10 seconds (gotta wipe quick) they flush…….but as she’s quite small, she only has to adjust position slightly and she gets a cold surprise. By early afternoon Brayden already had his long term plan in place……”when I bring my kids to Disneyworld we’ll come in term 2 or term 4, to have less heat and less people”…….hope he starts saving now! I’m amazed how warm it is, been 30+ each day, and quite muggy. While there were many thousands of people there today, we really didn’t have to wait too long for rides, and could see the queuing areas were much bigger, kids kept being amazed how much more they could have queued…..would just be horrendous here in July/August from both a heat and crowd viewpoint.
