Day 22 – Saturday 6th October 2007 Sea World
Sad start to the morning when we had to say goodbye to the Lucas’. They head to Jacksonville/Daytona tonight, and then fly to New York tomorrow for a few days before heading back to Australia. Was very odd coming home and not being able to catch up tonight with them. Their mobile is dead, so can’t even keep in text contact, so next time we see them will be back at school which is fast approaching.
We headed back for our 2nd (& last) day at Sea World today. On the weekends in October Sea World has ‘Sea World Spooktacular’, a great Halloween event. There are 15 ‘treat’ stations set up through the park, kids get a large lolly bag each, and then go along and ‘trick or treat’, was a wonderful way for them to get that US experience. Handed out heaps of good stuff too, bags of sour worms, lollypops, chocolates, peanuts, gummy lollies, even jars of apple sauce. Also had lots of weird sea type creatures all dressed up walking along with the crowds, Lauren wanted a photo with every one of them, will load one of those shots. We went up and down the stations once with the kids, then later in the day (when Michael and I were exhausted), they wanted to do it again. So we sat in a nice cool restaurant at one end, and Brayden took the girls up and down the 15 stations again to get another lot, so they were quite the trick or treat experts by the end of it. He even had a scam going over their hats. On the way up many of the people handing lollies out recognised the girls rainbow hats, so Brayden made them hide them in the backpack for the return trip! We finished with patting the sting rays again, had to drag Lauren away. They bought a few prawns and held them under the water to feed them, which was a very weird experience.
There are stations around the park where artists do caricature pictures (for a fee of course). Hayley was fascinated with this, and would often stop to watch them. We were on our way out when she spotted one, and the guy managed to do a good sales pitch on us, he suggested doing all 3 kids together, but really won me when he said ‘I have all the colours, I could really capture their rainbow hats’. Given that the rainbow hats were such a big part of this holiday we gave in……he did a fabulous job, we really enjoyed watching him draw it, and the framed picture will be a great holiday memory for years to come (does that sound like a desperate attempt to justify the cost!)
Had an early night tonight, kids all in bed and hopefully we’ll be asleep by 10pm. Made a home cooked meal, stir fry sausages. Brayden’s prayer for grace was ‘thank you that we can have a nice meal that doesn’t cost a fortune’….so I think the message of conserving $ is getting through!! Unfortunately our kind of sausages are hard to find here, best we could get was Italian pork sausages, so although they enjoyed the vegies/rice/gravy the sausages were a rude shock to them, and most were left. I finally got to use our spa bath tonight which was lovely. Big day at MGM tomorrow with the Walkers. Hoping it doesn’t rain tomorrow night and we’ll actually get to see ‘Fantasmic’ production at the end of the day.
