Day 17 – Monday 1st October 2007 Supposed ‘rest day’ Typical, on the day when the kids are meant to sleep in, they’re all awake before 8am after a late night. At least Michael slept till nearly 9am. We took our time getting going, had a big debrief session with Lucas’ in the morning catching up on what we both did yesterday (they were at Magic Kingdom yesterday, but we only crossed paths once), and then we all headed to Walmart. I told Lori-Lee yesterday we were dying to check out Walmart and she goes ‘oh come on, that’s just like Target’…..so Michael says ‘Tracey loves Target’….and we all did love Walmart. It is huge, like a Big W & Woolies in one store, heaps of good stuff at reasonable prices. We had lots of fun there, all went our separate ways, kept running into each other through the store. At one point I realised I hadn’t seen any of the kids for a long time, then ran into my Michael, then a bit later Michael Lucas (both alone), and sure enough finally found Karen who had all 5 kids on her own! I was with Lauren for my favourite part, we went into the Dora part of the dvd section and the look on her face was just wonderful, she was completely awestruck by all these new Dora dvd’s that are not yet out in Australia. Of course she wanted them all, so we agreed they could get a dvd each. Brayden found a brand new pokemon movie, so he was happy too. After Walmart we headed to the Florida Mall. Only got lost once on the way (and we were following the Lucas’ so that made us feel better). It was huge, nobody does malls like the yanks. As usual, we spent a lot of time comparing prices to Bali and of course still more expensive. Michael and I did both get a top each, so that was something at least. Michael bought a new New England Patriots T Shirt (his US gridiron team). He bought his first one on our trip here 16 years ago, got a lot of wear out of it, and it’s been his pyjama top for last few years once it disintegrated too much for public wear. Tonight the New England Patriots played televised Monday night football, so he’s introducing Michael L to the game. Boy does it go forever, it’s currently 10.30pm Monday here (and 12.30pm Tues for you). The game only goes for 1 hour (4 x 15min quarters). It started at 8.30pm, and it wasn’t half time till about 10.10pm. They absolutely plug the game with ads, and they have time outs every several seconds. So a 15min quarter of actual playing takes about 40 minutes of time……..they’ll still be going at midnight at this rate!! There is actually a player on his team with the name of ‘Morris’, so they’re both getting very excited at that. We called in at the supermarket on our way home to get something to cook for dinner. When we came out it was absolutely pouring with rain. It was about 7.45pm, we were desperate to get home so decided to make a run for the car…..and boy did we get soaked. The water was above our ankles, and we’re all in thongs/sandals holding hands and grocery bags and sliding through the car park, got just completely drenched. My hair was soaked and dripped all the way home straight down my back. We were all screaming with laughter though, so that was fun. Made chicken nachos for dinner, the Lucas arrived home just as we were serving up, so they timed that well! Planning to do Sea World tomorrow, we really enjoyed it when we went in California 7 years ago, hoping this one lives up to the memory. |
