Day 23 – Sunday 7th October 2007 MGM
Today was a day of character photos, got heaps of good shots – Snow White, Jasmine, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, Toy Story, Meet the Robinsons, Power Rangers and on and on. 2nd day at a theme park is much easier, not such a race to get round everything, more time to relax and just do your favourite things and a few you missed the first time round. The 2 big rides here are Tower of Terror (which kids & Dads did several times, while Lori-Lee or I shopped or rested) and Aerosmith’s Rockin’ Roller Coaster. It was closed last time we were here, so I was coerced into doing it….not my thing at all, very very fast and some loop the loops which I hate, so I retired at one try and left them to it. High School Musical 2 was also on this week, but not on our first visit. We got great seats and kids got to dance with the cast members (heaps of kids are chosen, not an exclusive thing).
We spent quite a bit of time today at the animation studio, where they have classes running through the day teaching you to draw the various characters. We did two classes and drew Mickey & Goofy, really enjoyed both, and get to keep the drawings as a neat souvenir. Hayley is definitely the artist of the family, hers were particularly good.
Highlight was the finale show ‘Fantasmic’. It had been rained out the first time we were there (which happens frequently), so we were really hoping to get it in today, and were in luck. It was just amazing, they project all these Disney scenes/heroes/villains onto giant water walls across a lake, the ‘story’ is that what’s being shown is Mickey’s dream. Near the end just about all the Disney characters appear on a giant ship (ala ‘Steamboat Willie’, Mickey’s original movie) and float around the lake. We were all really wowed by it, and that’s after seeing all the big finale shows at the other parks. Now we have to downplay it to the Lucas’ as they went twice to MGM and both times it was rained out.
We meet the Walkers again tomorrow to do Epcot.
